You didn't need to give the S.D.N.Y. the nickname "the D.C. Circuit of the District Courts," which, incidentally, doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

The S.D.N.Y. already has a nickname -- "the Mother Court" -- that's hard to beat. (It's called that because it is the oldest federal court in the nation, predating even the Supreme Court by a few weeks).

My Civ Pro Prof clerked for Judge Motley during the '91-'92 term. She watched the Thomas confirmation hearings with her clerks and, according to my Prof., had some choice words for Arlen Specter (or at least his televised image) upon Specter's use of the phrase "you people" while questioning Anita Hill...
