As you have probably inferred from her radio silence, Article III Groupie has been getting killed at work. Many of you work at big law firms and are all too familiar with what it's like here in the salt mines, so she will spare you the details. Suffice it to say that the astounding number of hours that A3G bills (and works) is deeply demoralizing. She would much rather be blogging -- and replying to the backlog of over 300 emails* in her inbox -- than responding to a request for information and documents from some silly little agency...
A3G keeps telling herself, "Girl, keep your eyes on the prize -- a million dollars a year buys a lot of Louis Vuitton!" But staying motivated isn't easy, especially when you must (1) take orders from more senior associates that you regard as your intellectual inferiors and (2) babysit the summer associates (and pretend that you actually bothered to read their work product).
So this should explain why Article Three Groupie has been MIA for the past week or so. There is no truth to the rumor that she is stepping down as the blogress behind Underneath Their Robes. To paraphrase Chief Justice Rehnquist's statement of last Tuesday, July 14, "I want to put to rest the speculation and unfounded rumors of my imminent retirement. I am not about to announce my retirement. I will continue to perform my duties as High Priestess of Federal Judicial Gossip as long as my schedule permits."
A3G thanks you for your patience, and she deeply appreciates your continued allegiance as readers despite the sometimes long periods of time in between her posts. She hopes to squeeze in a little bit of blogging this week (which should hopefully be better than last week, which was a total nightmare). Please check back soon!
* Yes, you read that correctly: 300 emails, which are not spam. (She has another 300 or so in her Spam folder.) So if you write to A3G and she fails to respond (or fails to respond in timely fashion), please don't take it personally. She just doesn't have enough time to keep up! But rest assured that she deeply appreciates your mail -- which is, of course, the lifeblood of her blog. Without the delicious tidbits of news and gossip submitted by UTR readers, this blog would not be possible.
Sheesh. I've thought a few times about going back to school to get a law degree, but stories like this keep turning be away.
How much time does one typically spend in the "salt mines" before collecting "the prize?"

Looks like someone beat me to the question I was going to ask! If you ever are in the market for someone with as much enthusiasm for the judiciary as you let me know. I may just be a novice now, but with a bit of instruction from you, (I do take instruction well), I could certainly take some of your blogging resposibilities on. That might leave more time for you to chase those hotties!

A3G: have you considered bringing on a co-blogger? even judge posner has one.
