Article III Groupie apologizes to the law clerks of Justice Souter for October Term 2005 for the delay in posting about them. Work has been insane this week, and A3G even had to take a quick trip out of town. The profiles of the DHS clerks should hopefully appear sometime early next week. (The delay is a testament to their fabulousness -- A3G has tons of tidbits about them that she needs to sort through.)
Looking ahead in the series of clerk profiles, A3G would like to propound three discovery requests concerning the Elect for OT 2005:
1. A3G is having a bit of trouble figuring out the identities the four CT clerks for next Term. She actually has more than four names, oddly enough: Chantel F., James H., John H., Ashley J., and Larry T. Perhaps one of them is an OT 2006 hire?
If you have solid information about who Justice Thomas's clerks will be in OT 2005, please email A3G.
2. At the current time, A3G is also a little uncertain about Justice Ginsburg's clerks for OT 2005. Three names -- incoming clerks Josh C., Rebecca D., and Lori A. -- have been confirmed by multiple sources of high reliability. And A3G even knows about an RBG clerk for OT 2006 (Kate A.). But the fourth RBG clerk for OT 2005 remains at large...
A3G does have one name that was passed along to her as unconfirmed. But when she tried to confirm it with sources she thought ought to know, she was unsuccessful. So again, if you can help A3G out, she'd be ever so grateful.
3. Finally, Article 3 Groupie* must also supplement her original UTR discovery request seeking info about the OT 2005 Supreme Court clerks, to add one more category of information: race (if not white; otherwise her inbox would be flooded). A3G needs this information for purposes of the round-up post at the end of the series, in which she will analyze the demographics of the clerk class.
Now, A3G is not thrilled to be asking after this info. As a conservative who is not a fan of affirmative action, she feels it would be best if we paid as little attention as possible to race. Even worse, the request is somewhat gauche.
But we have not yet achieved the goal of a color-blind society, and in the meantime, there is a definite public interest in the racial and ethnic backgrounds of high court clerks. Politicians and the mainstream news media have devoted much time and attention to the issue (see articles collected here). So if you have any such information, with respect to clerks already profiled as well as clerks to come, please share it with A3G.
As always, A3G thanks her ever-helpful readers in advance for their excellent information.
* Article III Groupie likes to spell her full name (as opposed to her Kozinski-bestowed nickname of "A3G") with a roman numeral; her occasional use of "Article 3 Groupie" or "Article Three Groupie" is done for Google purposes. An interest in maximizing Google hits also explains why she often tries to use several different formulations of a person's name in the same post, especially if the person's first and last names are fairly common. (For example, in her post about the AMK clerks, she used David M. Cooper, David Cooper, Dave, etc. Of course, Randy Kozel and Jeff Pojanowski don't have quite the same problem.)
